MOVIE POSTERS
"These are great to see..and also reminders of this incredible Treasure trove of films which the Goethe Society had in conjunction with the Boston Public Library. In fact Magnus elected to make these posters because he was enchanted by these films. As far as I know he wasn't paid or hired to do them. Later The Goethe Society in Boston did show them. He worked in the film dept. of the Boston Public Library so was in charge of projecting the films for these events. I remember there was a series of Opera films made for German television that he also projected and that was when he began to appreciate and listen to operas. We both worked at the library and we checked out 50 items at a time it seemed like. Many of them were records as they had a tremendous classical collection. It was his great pleasure to look at the film one image at a time through those little machines one wind with ones hand. He would be kneeling in the dark in his studio..picking out the assorted images to collage together in these hand-drawn and painted posters. It was an exciting time." - Susan Bennett, Friend
